I hope that my paintings can provide an escape. I want to ignite an emotion, a memory, a story or a journey that takes the viewer into another time, place or space. I seem to always be searching for beauty, wonder or tenderness in my world and when it finds me, I have a need to capture or freeze it in time in a painting, so I can then reveal it to the viewer. I paint landscapes, architecture, people, animals, or something that has spoken to me, telling me I simply must paint it. I also let my subconscious and instinct dictate how I will paint it. I will use odd colours in a realism style or make a focal point glow to reveal the extraordinary in the ordinary. Ultimately it’s a feeling that I am trying to create. A feeling that is deep rooted either in my subconscious or in the image that has captured me. Then as I paint, it will take on a life of its own. I’m just telling its story.
